"America's Fragile Armor. Bog Turtle (Glyptemys muhlenbergii)." 11" x 14" Canvas Giclee

$200.00

America is home to an amazing array of turtles and tortoises. Like other species around the world, many of them are threatened and at risk of disappearing forever. This piece is the third in a series that focus intimately on these animals.

The Story: This work depicts one of my most favorite turtles in the United States. Perhaps not coincidentally, it's also the rarest turtle species here. This painting was inspired by a trip to Knoxville Zoo where I was invited to visit these wonderful turtles in both their active breeding program as well as the undisclosed locations they inhabit.

In the work itself, we have the fragmented ecosystem in which these diminutive Bog Turtles live. They are called Bog Turtles for a reason and their spring fed bogs are paradise for these secretive little turtles. It's common for them to hide under sedges spotted with beautiful Violets that line small trickling waterways where they commonly feed on Dusky Slugs (Arion subfuscus).

This Limited Edition Print is printed on 16" x 20" Innova Smooth Cotton Paper. The live area is a 1:1 print of an original oil painting created on panel.. Each print is inspected, signed, numbered and packed by the artist. This painting's edition is only 200 Limited Edition Prints and 20 Canvas Giclees.
