Cuora trifasciata, 11" x 14" Limited Edition Print

This limited edition print is a reproduction of an original painting celebrating one of the rarest turtles in the world and one of the most beautiful turtles in Cuora genus, the critically endangered Cuora trifasciata. The Golden Coin Turtle, as it is commonly known, is endemic to Southern China and Northern Vietnam. Illegal and unsustainable hunting of this turtle has brought this species to its precarious position. Sadly, the folk lore regarding the medicinal value of this turtle are unproven by science, yet consumption of "turtle jelly" desserts is still common. Though, that isn't the only problem this species faces. Along with the medicinal trade, this species suffers from that which plagues all turtle species: gripping habitat loss and the pet trade where the ownership of these animals is often thought to bring longevity, wealth, and good fortune.
