"The Pit Vipers of Snake Road: 1 Water Moccasin" (Agkistrodon piscivorus)." 11" x 14" Canvas Giclee

$200.00

Southern Illinois is home to a "Pit Viper Bucket List" destination known as Snake Road.

The Story: During the late summer of 2017 I was able to go on my first venomous hunt. Please don't mistake that for never having searched for, seen, or found venomous snakes in the wild. Even with my countless trips, it wasn't until this, that I had ever gone field herping with venomous snakes as the sole reason. I couldn't have chosen a better place to go than Snake Road, IL. The Water Moccasins (or Cottonmouths) were so plentiful that, as the day went on, members of our group of eleven would call out when they saw one and with little if any reaction from the rest. The memories of this trip will last my lifetime (far longer than the chiggers did) and for any who have taken the trip, I hope this painting brings back fond memories for you as well.

This painting is a depiction honoring the Water Moccasins we saw on the trip. In this ecosystem, shallow pools form at the edge of rocky bluffs where gorgeous flora, clinging to every surface, begs for sunlight peaking through the canopy. Abundant frogs like The Northern Cricket Frog (Acris crepitans) dart every location enjoying the warm humid climate.

This canvas giclee is a 1:1 reproduction of the original acrylic and oil painting on panel finished in 2018.

This painting's edition is only 200 Limited Edition Prints and 20 Canvas Giclees.
